About This Event
Truthsgiving Silent Retreat - The Love Meditation that Changes Everything
βWithout others we are nothing. Our sense that we are an island, an independent, self-sufficient individual, bears no relation to reality. It is closer to the truth to picture ourself as a cell in the vast body of life, distinct yet intimately bound up with all living beings. We cannot exist without others, and they in turn are affected by everything we do.β
The New Eight Steps to Happiness - Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Frequently Asked Questions:
What is a silent retreat?
A silent retreat is a time when we refrain from speaking with our body and speech. But silence is not just about not talking; it is about watching our mind and developing an inner quality of stillness. In silence, we engage with the meditation object more intimately. We also start listening to the Dharma from deep within our heart, which gives us a special inner experience of the teachings we receive. Penetrating insights arise, and when we hold them with firm mindfulness, we find that Dharma experience pervades and deeply nourishes our heart.
Is this silent retreat suitable for beginners?
Yes. This silent retreat at Meditation in Harlem is beginner-friendly. New visitors receive guidance in meditation and can participate at a level that feels realistic and meaningful. You do not need to be Buddhist to attend, but the retreat will include Buddhist teachings and meditation practices.
