Frequently Asked Questions:
What is a silent retreat?
A silent retreat is a time when we refrain from speaking with our body and speech. But silence is not just about not talking; it is about watching our mind and developing an inner quality of stillness. In silence, we engage with the meditation object more intimately. We also start listening to the Dharma from deep within our heart, which gives us a special inner experience of the teachings we receive. Penetrating insights arise, and when we hold them with firm mindfulness, we find that Dharma experience pervades and deeply nourishes our heart.
Is this silent retreat suitable for beginners?
Yes. This silent retreat in Harlem is designed to be beginner-friendly. New visitors receive guidance in meditation and can participate at a level that feels realistic and meaningful. You do not need to be Buddhist to attend, but the retreat will include Buddhist teachings and meditation practices.
Minimum age is 17. Suitable for both beginners and experienced meditation practitioners.
